iPhone 3G - New pouch & StickiT Protector Pre-Order

With the new iPhone launching on the 11th July in 22 countries, it is important that you pop your little baby into a nice carry pouch. The GeekPouch is available for Pre-Order now, with shipping very soon after the iPod 3G launch. It comes in black corduroy, red faux suede and leopard fur effect fabrics and will keep your iPhone protected from light bumps and scrapes. Pricing is very simple, just £5.99 (inc. UK delivery) or £10.99 (inc. worldwide delivery) with a little saving on offer if you buy two.

If you are really worried about your new gadget, then you should pop a StickiT on the back. The nice glossy finish to the new iPhones is bound to attract dust and scratches. This thin film will keep the back of your new iPhone nice and shiney. The price is cheap too, just £2.99 (inc. UK delivery) or £5.99 (inc. worldwide delivery). Again, these will start shipping hopefully within a week of the iPhone 3G launch.

Both of these products have been available for a long time now, for the whole range of iPods and the current iPhone. They have proved very popular to date.

Canon debuts SD750 & SD1000 ELPH cameras

There's also the DIGIC III Image processor, and ISO as high as 1600, but everybody comes for the basics: 3x zoom, 7.1 megapixel CCD and a 2.5-inch LCD in each shooter. The $300 SD750 gets a bit fancy on form factor, but manages to be a mere 0.75-inches thick, while the 4.5 ounce SD1000 keeps the the classic ELPH look and also retails for $300.

Be Broadband Extends Coverage

Be Broadband is now available to 33% of UK households, with plans to improve this percentage by June. Be offers connections of 24Mb/s, with up to 2.5Mb/s upload speeds. Packages start at £14 per month, which seems a very good price if your area is covered.

Meizu M8 iPhone-a-like

Meizu have unveiled their new M8 MP3/PMP/Phone/PDA unit, a real challenger for the Apple iPhone. I say challenger, when clone may be a more appropriate description. The M8 will run WinCE 6.0 so may not be every Apple users cup of tea. It has a 3-megapixel camera which is pretty good, a 3.3-inch, TV output, GSM support and a whole lot more. It certainly seems like Apple has started something, now let's hope that they finish it.

BBC Web TV - watch your Monthly Usage

So, the MyBBCPlayer is going ahead, and soon you will be able watch BBC One and BBC Two programmes on your computer at the same time as they go out on regular TV. This is great news, as it means that in a few years time, with everyone streaming and downloading content on their computers, maybe we can see the end to the horrible BBC license fee.

But beware, with more and more services springing up online, everyone will find themselves downloading a lot of data. The first question is how all our Broadband providers will cope? The second and more important question is, do they really care? As we all happily download a film, or the latest episode of Eastenders, we will be racking up Gigabytes of data. If you are on a capped service with for example an 8GB monthly limit you may well find yourself with a hefty bill, or notices from your supplier saying "You have exceeded your download limit this month. We will not charge you on this occasion, but from next month this will be a chargeable item." Even if you have an unlimited service, the fair use policy often in place may also catch you out too.

So, we might be happy about all the extra content available online, but will we still be smiling when we have to pay for it?

Apples advises delay on Vista upgrade

There is no hiding the fact that Apple does not particularly want to do lunch with Microsoft. The launch of Vista also seems to have broken iTunes, with various problems and a previously issued fix. Apple has said in a statement; “iTunes 7.0.2 may work with Windows Vista on many typical PCs. Apple recommends, however, that customers wait to upgrade Windows until after the next release of iTunes which will be available in the next few weeks.”

So, Apple have warned you to wait a few weeks before upgrading... so do it, just wait guys, the new iTunes is just around the corner, maybe even wait a little longer for the far superior Leopard !

Apple Inc & The Beatles - Peace Man !

CUPERTINO, California and LONDON—Apple® Inc. and The Beatles’ company Apple Corps Ltd. are pleased to announce the parties have entered into a new agreement concerning the use of the name “Apple” and apple logos which replaces their 1991 Agreement. Under this new agreement, Apple Inc. will own all of the trademarks related to “Apple” and will license certain of those trademarks back to Apple Corps for their continued use. In addition, the ongoing trademark lawsuit between the companies will end, with each party bearing its own legal costs, and Apple Inc. will continue using its name and logos on iTunes®. The terms of settlement are confidential.

Commenting on the settlement, Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO said, “We love the Beatles, and it has been painful being at odds with them over these trademarks. It feels great to resolve this in a positive manner, and in a way that should remove the potential of further disagreements in the future.”

Commenting on the settlement on behalf of the shareholders of Apple Corps, Neil Aspinall, manager of Apple Corps said, “It is great to put this dispute behind us and move on. The years ahead are going to be very exciting times for us. We wish Apple Inc. every success and look forward to many years of peaceful co-operation with them.”
