The Ultimate Guide to the Best Microphones for Podcasting

March 5, 2024

Podcasting aficionados, it's time to amplify your voice with the perfect mic! Geekanoids brings you the definitive list of the best podcasting microphones to suit every need and budget.

For the wandering podcaster, the Rode SmartLav+ offers unparalleled convenience as a lavalier microphone. This is perfect to vlog on the go or indeed capture on location snippets of audio that could later become part of your podcast.

When versatility is key, the Blue Microphones Yeti Nano has been around for a long time and stands out for its adaptable recording patterns. However, if you're diving into voice recordings, the Rode Podmic is your go-to for rich, warm audio that captivates listeners. In fact, I have personally used the Rode Podmic USB (which has both XLR and USB connectivity) for my own recordings and have always been impressed.

Do you crave that studio-quality sound without breaking the bank? Look no further than a brand that may well not be on your radar. The Earthworks Audio EVO looks absolutely stunning and the tonal quality is exceptional. This would certainly be one of my top picks.

The Shure SM7dB reigns supreme as the all-around champion for podcasting, delivering professional-grade audio that has graced the studios of podcast legends. This new version has a beefier output, so is a little easier to use in your audio production setup.

If you are ready to let your voice be hard and elevate your podcast to the next level, snag your ideal microphone and capture every nuance of your vocal brilliance. Stay tuned for more of the latest geek findings in the world of podcasting, only on Geekanoids.

MULTITRACK RECORDING Coming to RØDECaster Pro

January 24, 2019

Australian pro audio giant RØDE Microphones is pleased to announce that the world’s first fully integrated podcast production console, the RØDECaster Pro, will issue firmware update 1.1.0 in February 2019, which includes a more user-friendly interface and channel selection, plus multitrack recording.

All existing customers will be able to update their RØDECaster Pro with multitrack recording, and all new units will feature the update, making 2018’s most compelling piece of audio equipment the must-have console in 2019 for podcasters of any level.

MULTITRACK RECORDING
The multitrack feature will record 14 tracks:

• A stereo ‘live mix’ track, as featured on the RØDECaster Pro since its release
• A mono track for each of the 4 microphone inputs
• A stereo track each for the USB, 3.5mm TRRS, Bluetooth and sound pad channels

To activate multitrack recording, simply access the Advanced settings in the Hardware section of the RØDECaster Pro’s touchscreen interface. From there, a single switch engages 'Multi-Channel' mode for multitrack recording.

RØDECASTER PRO SMASHING RECORDS
“The reception of the RØDECaster Pro has been exceptional,” says Freedman Group CEO, Damien Wilson. "The RØDECaster Pro is a world-first – a complete game-changer that has revolutionised podcast production. People who have only dreamed of podcasting are now able to do so, thanks to the simplicity of the RØDECaster Pro.

"But for us, launching the product was never the finish line. We continue to refine and improve the software features of the RØDECaster Pro, with the first significant upgrade being the addition of multitrack recording to the RØDECaster Pro’s capability. Whether you choose to mix live or edit in post, the RØDECaster Pro is the perfect solution for EVERY podcaster.”

The 1.1.0 firmware update will be available to download in February from rode.com/rodecasterapp. Stay tuned for more updates to the features on the RØDECaster Pro.
